Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland has died aged 24.

Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft and appeared in 18 games for the team, with four starting appearances.

He scored his first touchdown in the Tuesday game to the Arizona Cardinals when he recovered a blocked punt.

"He was a cherished team member and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys stated.

"We send our condolences regarding Marshawn are with his partner Catalina and his family."

Kneeland was selected by Dallas with the 56th selection of the 2024 draft after his college career for Western Michigan University.

His agent, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart aches" for the loss of the athlete who "poured his heart" into each opportunity.

"I saw him strive his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a dream to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley commented.

The NFL stated it is "profoundly grieved" by the news.
