Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
